The 2019 Old Vine and certified organic Rodnick Vineyard Mourvèdre is one of the best yet with inexpressive concentration and depth, while being very elegant and firmly in the house style with smooth tannins and a deep floral perfume; this is a heady and opulent version of this grape, which is most famous in Provence’s Bandol region. Opening with a salvo of peony and seeped rose petals along with red berry compote this Mourvedre adds classic earthy cherry, plum and wild berry fruits on the full bodied palate along with a nice elegant wood note with just a hint of feral meatiness, tarry licorice, mission fig and dusty spices.
A classic Rhone blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, that is delightfully playful, dark garnet/red hued and full of flavor with a medium weight body and easy textures that capture Monterey County's Mediterranean warmth and marine influenced cool/crisp detail.
100% native (indigenous) yeast fermentation. Highly aromatic, youthfully taut, and flows with a smooth delicacy that is distinctly weightless. Medium bodied, it opens up with floral notes and a touch of earth
The 2021 perfectly captures the essence of the vintage and of place with a pure Grenache profile and cool climate vibrancy showing a Pinot Noir style elegance and a seamless smooth medium/full palate of juicy reds fruits and spices. The long growing season made for wonderfully clean flavors with ripe strawberries, plum, pomegranate and brambly raspberry fruits vying for attention with subtle oak notes, giving some vanilla, cedar and mocha, along with cinnamon, pepper, lavender and anise in the background. This vintage is vinous and supple, but with loads of energy and it goes great with food, especially when you chill it down slightly and enjoy it with your favorites off the grill.
